Germany hold off Australia to claim thrilling win at FIFA Confederations Cup
Germany may have left a team of their star players at home, but still managed to get the job done in their opening FIFA Confederations Cup match on Monday.
The world champions, without Toni Kroos, Mesut Oezil, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng, Leroy Sane and more, got a 3-2 win over Australia.
Lars Stindl put the Germans ahead after just five minutes but Tom Rogic equalised for the Socceroos four minutes before half time.
The Germans ensured they went into the break ahead, though, as captain, Julian Draxler converted a 45th minute penalty.
And it seemed the result was sealed when Leon Goretzka made it 3-1 for Germany after 48 minutes.
